Local Democratic Candidates
in the November 2010 General Election

Illinois' 10th U.S. Congressional District:

Dan Seals' career spans both the private and public sectors. He worked as a high school teacher before winning the Presidential Management Fellowship. He served as an Aide to the Assistant Secretary of Commerce, served as an Economics Fellow in the Senate, lectured on public policy at Northwestern University and served on the Council of Global Affairs Task Force. Dan has held leadership positions at both Sprint and GE Capital and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a MA from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. In past elections as the Democratic candidate opposing an entrenched Republican officeholder, he proved his commitment to the 10th District working to garner the support of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.  He knows the issues and the concerns of voters from Waukegan through Wilmette and from Gurnee to Palatine.

Illinois' 17th Legislative District:

Daniel Biss, a former University of Chicago mathematics professor, is the Democratic candidate for the Illinois legislative seat being vacated by Rep. Beth Coulson (R). Daniel ran as the Democratic candidate against Coulson in the 2008 election. His intelligence, straight-talk and energetic campaigning (he knocked on an estimated 23,000 doors) brought him very close to defeating 6-term incumbent Coulson. Biss was unopposed in the February Democratic Primary but will face a Republican opponent, Hamilton Chang, in the General Election.

Illinois' 18th Legislative District:

Robyn Gabel
Robyn Gabel has served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition for 20 years. As the Executive Director, she is responsible for carrying out the Coalition's mission of improving the health of women and children in Illinois through policy development, education and advocacy. Since 1998 the 18th District (now primarily Evanston and the eastern half of New Trier Township) has been represented by Rep. Julie Hamos (D). Julie chose not to run for a seventh term. Five Democratic candidates stepped forward to replace Julie as the 18th District Representative. Robyn Gabel was the winner of the February 2, 2010 Democratic Primary. (No Republican entered his/her name in the February Primary race.) To learn more about Robyn and her views on key issues go to: (www.robynforrep.com)
